searched "event planning jobs in rochester, ny" and this came up, It sounded like a pretty legit position and I assumed it would actually be a job about MANAGING and PLANNING EVENTS. wrong. good thing I looked on here first before my phone interview.
This position is exactly what some people below have shared: this is actually an in person sales position. They want you to go into stores (sam's clubs) and malls and try to sell people products from the specific "clients" they work for. It has nothing to do with any actual "event managing" or planning.
When I mentioned that this is not at all what I was looking for, and that I thought it was more of a desk job, with obvious set up and working the "event," she suggested that I wait to get back in touch in 2 weeks, because they were opening another location in a different city and there would be movement in the company and that I may possibly be able to apply for an HR position then.
Also a Texas number called my phone for this first interview, and I'm in NY, so was the location I was applying to. scam.

Applied online and got a call a few days later asking to set up a preliminary phone interview. After the phone interview (which was basic questions like do you have a car? and do you like to travel?) they set up an in person interview at an event they were having at a local Sams Club. When there the interviewer took me over to the food court where we discussed what the job entitles. The job is NOT what I applied for online. They hook you in with a promising position and offer you a sales job. She then proceeded to show me how to sell mops. It is a very fishy company that is all about sales and commission. She even asked "If we need to sell 10% of the mops in one hour and I speak to an average of 2 people per minute, how many people do I need to talk to to reach our goal?". The entire process was a waste of my time for not being anywhere near what I originally applied for.
