Mu Sigma Harassment Interview Summary: If you want your educational qualification and experience to get ignored, get treated and interviewed in the same way as a fresh engineer being interviewed in a recruitment drive and if you do not want money but highly motivated to slog and do some good work– it is ok to interview with this company and you can avoid late disappointment. Remember it’s a recruitment DRIVE!!! Company Culture: Pretending to be a smart bunch of people better than people working at any other company in this world, not afraid of laughing at interview candidates during presentations or discussions. My Experience: Applied for Manager/Associate Manager position through a job portal. Got a call from the HR, received a case study to be solved and returned within 48 hours. I then received another call for onsite interviews. The HR booked flight and accommodation. HR didn’t provide details on the onsite interview process. A bunch of us were called on Friday for info session, while the actual day-long interview was on Saturday. Friday night was more of Q&A. There were 20 candidates from different backgrounds, different level of qualifications, different experience levels. So basically you would be competing with people of different exp levels for the same position. Quite a few were from top MBA schools and every one was treated in same pool, so your education will not be valued by Mu Sigma. Following is what we learnt on Fri. 1) You should be able to learn and must have attitude to learn while on job. The company reps seemed to have their own attitude in saying this as they believe they are the only people who learn on job and there is no other company where people learn on job. There is no other company that does such analytical work, or data driven work. 2) You should think about how prestigious and great work you will do. I was wondering whether they are an NGO serving societies that impact people at grass root level? Are they solving problems that will benefit humanity? Of course not! They are a business just like any other company. Then for what are they so proud of? 3) Think about how great work you will do but don’t expect a salary hike of 30%, you may or may not even get at 10% hike. Interview Day: Get prepared for a recruitment drive you might have had years ago during your undergrad level. Here is the flavor 1) Aptitude test – if you have proved yourself over the years and possibly you might have got your last job after an aptitude test, you still need to take one. Aptitude test for managers!!! 2) Video synthesis test – You will be shown a video and you will be asked to write down the takeaway. The idea is to test your listening skills. God knows how do they do that!! 3) Programming – Now comes the funny part. At Mu Sigma you need to know programming. MBA guys were stumped by this. Later Mu Sigma allowed people to write pseudo code in English but this round was not worth it. They were testing logical and structuring skills. They are solving business problems, then why can’t they do case interview to test this skill? Is there any proven better way of testing these skills as good as a case interview? 4) Group case study – This is where you will feel frustrated and undervalued. They give you group case to test your ability of working in team setting. There were people with up to 7-8 years’ experience and so would you test them for their team skills? Ridiculous! If you have called experienced folks, of course they would have done well in teams. 5) Case study presentation – A bunch of junior to senior Mu sigma guys would be there to evaluate your presentation and they will cut you in between your presentation for a question and they will laugh at you if you said something wrong. Unprofessionalism will you call it? 6) Creativity Test – Again you can question the relevance of this round. You will be given a sentence and be asked to act, write a story or poem etc to explain. 7) Peer feedback – every member of your Group case study team will be given a paper to write feedback about every other member. Does it make sense to ask for a peer feedback on basis of a 40 min exercise? Peer feedback only comes in picture when you have worked with a person for sufficient amount of days. Probably Mu Sigma doesn’t understand this. They will be happy if I evaluate them in 40 mins.. 8) Personal Interview – It seemed that my interviewer had not seen my case presentation I had sent initially. Again a totally weird way of validating that you had actually worked on your case. Wouldn’t you ask the candidate to present his/her case and ask questions? You can be asked question on your background etc. Evaluation/Result: You will be given a scorecard with scores in each round. There is a cut off on aptitude, so you won’t have personal interview if you dint clear aptitude. Finally you can be rejected on basis of not culturally fit with the company.
