The interview process started with getting to know me and my background with azure and seeing if I had the necessary experience to fulfill the role. After discussing my experience I was told I did not have enough experience and they were looking for a more senior level azure administrator to help implement and monitor their cloud infrastructure. The interviewer was really nice and discussed reaching out if any other opportunities would come up within the company.

This was sadly a farce. On the first interview, I got asked highly scripted questions that gave little opportunity to get into the details about my qualifications for the role. No questions about any past role on my resume, which is weird because experience is one of the top requirements.
But all I got was generic questions, zero follow up questions the entire time, which means they were taking notes or not actually paying attention or absorbing. It was a massively disappointing experience overall. There's no way on earth that someone who isn't experienced with hiring for senior specialized PM roles can be the person who selects who goes forward.
This is not a game, these are people's careers. Treat candidates with more respect , and figure out a process that's in line with industry best practices, like the appropriate place for the hiring manager or team member.
If a candidate's resume is good enough to make you curious, then screen to make sure they're legit, and pass them onto the hiring manager to make a judgement on their qualifications and experience. Product Management is a serious field that is being undermined by bad interviewing practices, which is becoming more rampant in recent times.
