I got an outreach call from a recruiter without any role in mind. Pleasant and friendly, chatting about my experience and more of a get-to-know. Eventually they contacted me after a role was put up and asked if I was interested. I said yes but also had follow-up questions about what kind of role it is, which they didn't answer, and sent me an invitation to do a Hackerrank assessment. It was entirely outside my relevant experience and skillset, and it was only after asking them a few weeks later for an update that they confirmed that the role was a technical one that required that level of dev knowledge. I thought it was odd for them to have reached out to me considering this isn't my area of experience.
