I have never been in a more awkward and negative interview
From the get go the two ‘leaders’ did not smile, no warm welcome, no personal interaction or friendly intro’s, they did not even allow me to introduce myself. First up was a project management scenario task, they told me my 5 mins was up but never told me i could only speak for 5 mins. All they had mentioned was I have 5 mins for prep. Not fair in my opinion.
Next up was scenario based questions - fine as expected and i no doubt was shaken by the atmosphere and the first part. So I’m sure i did not perform at my best. I found it weird that they asked no prompt or follow up questions - i got the interest they were totally uninterested in both me, the role and the company.
I had 15 mins to ask my own questions, with a smile i asked so sell me you team, why should i work for you. Oh my god. He said whoever is in the team has to work miracles, said the team was understaffed and overworked. The director sat there not contributing at all!! It was so weird. I asked more questions about priorities in the role etc. she did not contribute anything.
I could not believe leadership and director were allowed to behave like that in an interview, HR should have been present to witness it. Performance in an interview is key to sell the role to candidates!! How Elise will you attract talent. You also need to take ownership of candidate experience! Horrible first impression and as expected I did not get the job, I would not have taken it. Concerned that this is the experience of such a vital service as the NHS.
