      Candidatura

Candidatei-me online. O processo levou 2 semanas. Fui entrevistado pela Natera (San Carlos, CA) em set. de 2019

      Entrevista

Here is my interview process with Natera. Understand that I am extraordinarily well-qualified in what I do. Make your own conclusion. Pre-interview: Fifteen minute pre-screen interview with HR. The interviewer concluded that I am highly qualified and acceptable to progress to the next interview step. Phone interview: Half hour discussion with a staff member, from an unknown organizational level. The conversation was a little awkward, covered my qualifications and included a discussion of my age, which I completely ignored. The interview concluded with my progressing to in-person interview level. HR requested via email my preference for interview scheduling. I replied any day but, knowing the drive, I expressed a preference for an arrival time that avoids rush-hour traffic. I received an interview schedule request for 9:30am, stating it was the only time available. The interview was scheduled for an hour. I accepted. I prepped by becoming familiar with the company by looking at public documents. I scheduled my drive to leave a half-hour before Apple maps, which included a fifteen minute cushion. Due to an accident, I was fifteen minutes late. Knowing I would be late, I called the company. Six calls over the course of a half an hour, I could not get a human on the line. Only endless waits at the end of various menu choices that concluded in “leave a voicemail.” I was greeted by friendly administrative staff and shown to a conference room. In came someone who didn’t introduce herself. I didn’t know her name or position. Turns out, she would be supervising me. She launched into the requirements of the position, all of which individually were well within my abilities, although the breadth of which seemed a bit burdensome. She described the software tools which I would use, which I concluded from experience were inadequate for the demands of the work. She explained the high demands of the position which, again, are within my abilities. However, she explained that the previous person in the position did an excellent job, but left because it was too much work. We concluded after about 45 minutes. Come to find out, I was scheduled for a three hour interview. Next up, a conversation with the previous phone-screen person. He didn’t introduce himself either, and it took me some time to figure that out. I also had to ask his, position in the company - peer level to mine. Again, a slightly awkward conversation. He spent some time complaining about the burdens of his job (and his career) and the challenges related to a growing company with limited resources. He made some disparaging comments about others in the staff, alluding also to internal conflict. He mentioned how demanding the previous interviewer was as a boss, pointing out that it was her first supervisory position at a company. He again launched into a conversation about my age, only this time he kept pressing after I ignored him. The subject did not conclude until he figured out my high school graduation date. Conversations with two more people followed. Both introduced themselves, so I at least knew with whom I was speaking. Both were pleasant. Both spoke to the challenges of the position and of having to perform in an environment of limited staffing resources. Nobody gave me a business card or contact information. They all had an agenda/schedule for the day, a copy of which was not given to me. I concluded the day by asking to speak with HR. I was asked to wait, and after 15 minutes was told they were too busy. I sent an email requesting a conversation. Three days later I received a reply saying they would get back to me. So, including some prep time and drive time, I’ve put about six hours into this process and after a week, have heard nothing. After making an attempt to express some concerns to HR, which have been ignored, I felt it appropriate to post.
