Applied online. Emails were setup via email contact with the HR admin who was very efficient. Had two in-person interviews in Teddington. NPL did not offer travel expenses, so it cost me around £200 in travel alone to attend interviews. The first interview was with an HR manager and a technical person. The technical guy asked me questions about how their instrument worked, and the HR manager asked competancy questions. I felt this interview went well and that both interviewers were well prepared. The second interview was again with the HR manager, but with the boss technical guy. I had to prepare a presentation on a controversial environmental monitoring topic. It was clear from the start that the boss technical guy had not prepared to interview me. He spent ages talking about the controversial topic without asking me any questions: the HR manager had to interrupt to remind him I was there to answer questions. It also became clear during this interview that the role had been misrepresented as a research role, when it was in fact operational. After I was rejected, the job was re-advertised, which I think reflects the fact they misrepresent the job duties.
