After not hearing anything initially, I contacted them. They said they were putting this search on hold and instead hiring a Director of Institutional Giving, and would I be interested in interviewing for that? I said yes, and they said they'd get back to me. Fast forward several months and I still hadn't heard anything. I checked in, and they were back to "senior manager" instead of director. I said I was still interested (though I had looked at the job description for the director role and the senior manager role, and they were exactly the same but with different compensation.) I got an interview, but it was incredibly clear they were still unsure of what type of organizational structure they wanted for the development department. They were debating setup and mentioning that the role could change. Ultimately, they decided I didn't have enough of a certain type of experience that wasn't even listed in the job description. Also, even though being fluent in Spanish was an "added bonus" according to the job ad, it was clearly a barrier to my employment that I do not speak Spanish.
