I applied through a post on Idealist in February of 2017. A few days later I received an email to set up a phone interview. The phone interview was pretty quick and lasted about 15 or 20 minutes. Lots of generic interview questions, and the opportunity to ask questions at the end. The interviewer told me that they were in the early stages of the interview process, but that they would contact me by the end of the following week to notify me of my status. I marked my experience as negative because the interviewer never contacted me. It's common courtesy to at least send a generic denial email.

I had a phone interview with HR and then an in person with my supervisor, an in person interview with HR and then several in person interviews with coworkers. HR asked me over the phone "why I wanted to work for NYP" and "what my salary expectations were." I was terrified by the first and insulted by the second. Obviously I did not name a specific figure. HR seemed to hate me, but warmed up in my second interview. The others went very well. I was hired.
