Wow, what a terrible process these folks have. The dreaded online assessment is their first tool and its a bargain bin import reject quality tool at that. Its like the person that wrote the questions just finished level one of a knock-off Rosetta Stone for English and is only semi literate in their native language. It really is THAT bad. Not long after applying “online” I received an email from Marie inviting me to take an online assessment. The email didn’t appear to be an auto generated form letter but still felt canned. The “assessment” request is nothing new but its always a caution flag because its lazy recruiting. The assessment was about 30 minutes worth of multiple choice questions that were, to put is kindly, poorly written. I had to read quite a few of them several times to even half way understand what they were asking because they were so full of grammatical and contextual errors. I honestly believe they were written by someone who barely has English as a second language. There were several instances where the same question was used with one different word but still the same choices for answers. I just cannot describe how awful this particular "assessment" and given how terrible they are in general that is saying quite a lot. I get how some companies must automate some aspects of the applicant screening process. This is a small company in a small town outside of Austin though. I cannot imagine they are that inundated with applicants that they need to filter them with nonsense like this in the first place and there is absolutely nothing they could possible learn from the answers in any even… no matter how one might have answered the questions. I’m thinking they must have bought some sort of low rent recruiting service from the ad pages in the National Enquirer and outsources to some enterprising folks in Siberia or Bangalore because otherwise I cannot imagine how they could have written such an incredibly bad screening process on their own. This was Jan 2018...Hey Glassdoor...its 2018 but thats not in the drop down list below. I selected "very difficult" for the interview difficulty not because it was hard but because it was so incredibly difficult to get through the screening having to stop and try to figure out what the hell the questions were asking and then what inane answer best applied when more often than not was "E" none of the above...and that was never an option.
