Depending on which department/division you're applying for, the process can be different in minor ways. After submitting my application and from the closing time, I received an email fairly quickly to schedule an interview. The interview itself was with a committee and the supervisor right afterwards. There was only one day of interview.

The hiring process at NC State was fairly typical. It moved a bit faster than I have heard is typical. I first submitted an online application. I was contacted to schedule a brief phne interview. After the phone interview, I was invited for on-campus interviews. During the on-campus interview, I met with a panel of six people from various positions within the department including the Dept. Head, the Operations Manager, faculty and other staff. The questions were typical behavioral-based questions.
