      Entrevista para Business Intelligence Engineer

      17 de fev. de 2023
      Candidato(a) sigiloso(a) à entrevista
      Chicago, IL
      Nenhuma oferta
      Experiência negativa
Entrevista com nível médio de dificuldade

      Candidatura

Candidatei-me online. O processo levou 2 meses. Fui entrevistado pela Numerator (Chicago, IL) em nov. de 2022

      Entrevista

Interviewed in Q4 2022. After the final interview I was told I was one of the top two candidates being considered for the role. I was told to expect either an offer or a phone call from the hiring manager, but instead received a single sentence e-mail that said: "...the team decided to go with a different candidate... decision was partially made on tech knowledge and price point." Given that I had a "perfect" tech interview (their words) and never had the chance to negotiate salary, this was very odd feedback to receive. I never received the promised phone call from the hiring manager. This is not the first time I have been one of the finalists for a role, but when I have been turned down by other organizations the recruiter and hiring manager have always been very communicative and have urged me to apply to other roles. Interview stages: 1. Screen with recruiter (fit and capability) 2. Technical screen (SQL, basic statistics) 3. Screen with hiring manager (behavioral Q & A) 4. Case study (2 hours for design + 1 hour Q and A, 5 dataset questions, 5 more SQL questions) Note that for the case study, you will be given a sample set of data (.csv) and told to make a PowerPoint deck around your answers to five questions. You are expected to have a thorough presentation put together with answers to all ten questions. If you have time to to load the given dataset into a SQL database, either to further manipulate that data in a reporting tool like Tableau or just as a means of validating your answers to the SQL questions, I suggest you do so as it will impress the interviewers. If you are using a personal device for the interview and do not have access to a paid version of a reporting tool that can connect to a database (or can't be bothered because you want to focus on answering the questions), I suggest using Tableau Public. Of course, none of this will matter if you make the mistake of asking for a market rate salary that fits the job description.

      Entrevista

1st step: Got a request from the recruited to do a code test. This was 3 MySQL questions (1 easy, 1 medium, 1 hard), 2 multiple choice, and an open-ended question. Had 50 minutes to complete. 2nd step: Then had an interview with the recruiter after passing the code test, asked mostly questions about my experience, and to recount times where I encountered X event and how I dealt with it. 3rd Step: Then had an interview with the hiring manager, which gave more information on the role, and asked similar but more technical questions than the recruiter. 4th step: a 15 minute debrief with the hiring manager, followed by 2 hours on your own to complete a case study. Need to write 3 SQL queries, and create 3 visualizations, then present it to a panel of the hiring manager and 4 other team members for 45 minutes. Steps 1-4 took a week and a half.
