I found Objective’s Project Manager listing via a Google job search and applied for the position through a link on their website. Objective reached out to schedule an interview with me via email. The first interview was over the phone. A week or so later, they scheduled an in-person interview with me. I interviewed with two individuals, both were approachable, warm, and welcoming. Overall, this was probably one of the best interviews I’ve experienced. I appreciated that they didn’t ask some of the standard interview questions (ex. Tell us about a time you resolved a conflict at work). Instead, I felt that they really tried to take some time to get to know me, my work ethic, my skillset, and my career aspirations. While they had several questions prepared, I felt that they let conversations and questions flow based on my responses. The interview felt relaxed and natural. It has been several months since I interviewed with Objective so my questions are not comprehensive nor verbatim.

We’d like to get to know you a little bit. Tell us about your self and give a brief overview of your educational/professional background.
After looking at your resume, we noticed that you have been at your current company for just under 1 year. Why are you looking to make a switch? We ask because many of our employees have been with Objective for several years; some for over a decade. We try our best to keep employees around for the long haul but understand why some employees might look for opportunities elsewhere for various reasons.
What is your experience with the following technologies? (They then listed off several terms, languages, frameworks, and paradigms; I don’t remember any specifics)
Why are you interested in working at Objective?
From your resume, we see that you are located reasonably far from our office. How do you plan on commuting to work and how might weather conditions impact your ability to get to and from work every day.
Say we do end up hiring you. You start working here and several months later you are at a party, telling your friends about your new job. Say you really love working here and are excited to share why that is the case. What about this position and working at this company could you imagine would make you feel that way and why?
Now, imagine the opposite. You start working here. Several months later, you go to a party and tell your friends you hate your job. Why might this be the case?
We are really proud of the people who work here and feel that we have created an engaged and enjoyable office culture. Could you give some examples of things that significantly contribute or take away from having a pleasant and productive work atmosphere?
We have tried to create a community of learning and discovery here at Objective. We are constantly pushing employees to think outside the box and explore tech/languages/frameworks/etc. that they don’t have prior experience with. With that in mind, we do our best to hire self-starters, people who are motivated to learn and are willing to participate in company education events. What’s your process for learning and figuring out how to do something you don’t have experience in/with?
