I interviewed with Ocean Networks Canada through a panel interview format. The panel mentioned upfront that they had approximately 20 questions to cover in a 60-minute interview, which felt excessive and left very little room for meaningful discussion or follow-up. While answering questions, the interaction felt largely one-sided. The panel members appeared to be focused on moving through a predefined list rather than engaging in a conversational or exploratory discussion. As a candidate, it felt more like a formality than a genuine assessment or two-way exchange. Following the interview, there was no closure or formal rejection communicated, even after a long period of time (8–9 months). I followed up once or twice early on and was told the decision process was ongoing and difficult. After that, there was no further communication. I understand that hiring decisions can take time, especially in research or public organizations, but a simple closure email would have been appreciated and would reflect more respect for candidates’ time and effort.
