First, an Instant Impact recruiter will call you, briefly discuss the role and ask you basic questions about why you applied. Then, you arrange a video interview with the same Instant Impact recruiter where further competency-based questions are asked. Following this you are sent literacy and numeracy tests. The maths is particularly difficult as it is timed so revision is helpful. If you pass those you are placed in a Discovery Day, which is their version of an assessment centre. There you are given situational-based tasks in different breakout rooms where a current Octopus employee observes and assesses you. You are also interviewed 1:1 and you will have the opportunity to ask a panel of current employees questions. If you are successful after the Discovery Day, you will have a final interview with senior leadership from the relevant office who will ultimately make the final judgement. Despite successfully making it through each stage, I was not offered a position due to my ‘skillset not matching the job requirements’ - which makes no sense given I have a plethora of relevant experience. And, if they think that’s the case, why was this only flagged after the final interview? Overall, the process was insightful but incredibly long, and it left me wondering what kind of candidates they’re actually looking for. Even if you have bucketloads of relevant work/study experience, a genuine commitment to the environment and scored highly at each interview stage, you won’t be offered a job.
