I visited Viacom's Careers site and saw a few recently updated product jobs at a Viacom brand I'd be interested in working for, but the differences between the positions weren't really clear from the posted job descriptions. Through my professional network, I reached out to a Director of Product at that brand, and asked if I could have an informational interview. My intent was to discuss the different jobs with this person, and figure out which I was best suited to in order to focus my application efforts During the interview it came out that there actually were NO job openings in the department at that time. The director didn't seem to be aware that Viacom's Careers site had openings posted for that team, and was in a position to know what openings there actually were. I do appreciate the director graciously taking time to talk with me for an hour nonetheless, discussing their operational structure and general job advice. It's worth noting that since I went in for that interview, all of the erroneous listings are still up, and another one has even appeared. I have to wonder about the other positions all across Viacom that I just submitted a resume for and then never heard anything about again.

I had four interviews with different members of the team, and the whole process took about a month and a half. They asked about my previous experience in the entertainment industry and presented common production scenarios, asking how I would handle them as a production manager.
