Paper application submitted, in person. Dressed professionally during the application process. No longer accepts paper applications. Was called within a week for an interview. Interview with the store manager was easy, no fuss, and lasted less than twenty minutes. I was asked basic experience-centered questions, why I wanted to work for this company and what I'd hoped to gain from my time with this company. Also asked scenario-centered questions, such as how I would handle a disgruntled customer, and provided example of problem solving skills. Was told I would need to meet with the district manager, but was actually called with 24 hours, offered the job, told to take a drug test, and was scheduled for my first day of work. Application to first day was a two week process. Very quick, though I understand it's a much lengthier process these days.

Describe an instance in which you had to handle a difficult customer.
The interview process was quick and very great. It went by fast. It was easy to do. I thought it was fine. The manager was nice. The interview was easy to prepare for.

The interview was one-on one. It first started out with the interviewee asking me a series of regular interview questions. My interviewer was at the time, one of the managers at one of the Payless stores in the area. The next thing we did was a role play. With the role play, my interviewer grabbed a shoe from the shoe rack, placed it on a cart, and then told me to sell her the shoe, (as if i was a sales person). I first asked what was the shoe needed for (job, leisure), and then i asked was the shoe for her (the interviewer). Then i briefly stated that the shoe was a nice versatile color, (it was black), the sole on the inside was extremely comfortable if you are going to be standing for a long period of time, and i also stated that it was on sale, for (x amount of money).I am assuming i did an excellent job, because i was offered the position.

Entrevista
I was called about 2 weeks after applying and asked to come into the store to do an interview. I was brought to the back office and asked about my experiences in retail, my biggest accomplishments, and what I find most difficult about retail. Then we did a walkthrough of how a sale should work in the store. The manager gave feedback and explained the Payless sales method. Overall, a very pleasant interview experience. It felt like they were really looking into who they were hiring instead of taking me out of desperation.
