Applied online and was called a few weeks later for an interview. Had two phone interviews which were just wonderful— the Seminary is a beautiful place on the forefront of a real digital migration to stay current and be accessible in a global market. I fully supported their ideology and was very excited to learn about their initiative. After the second interview, I was invited on-site for an interview because the hiring team was “impressed” by my experience. I emailed back the same day and tried to come up with a plan to visit onsite. I asked a clarifying question so I could best plan for my visit and never heard back. I followed up after a few days and was told by the secretary/gatekeeper that I would hear soon. I never did. I waited one week to say I still was very interested in coming to campus and honor their request for a visit and never heard back again. I am not entirely surprised that this happened since one of my scheduled phone interviews was accidentally missed on their end (and rescheduled after I waited for the call for hours), and the secretary would wait days and days to respond to any communication if at all.
What does this say for how they run their department and communicate with one another if simple emails cannot be responded to? These are emails THEY initiated.
It has been months since this happened but it still bothers me. On a human to human level, it is like inviting someone into your home and not opening the door once they get there. Have a courageous conversation if you’ve had a change of heart or if you’ve decided to pull the position; ignoring someone who has dedicated their time to you does nothing but one thing: overemphasizes how little you respect them.
