Applied online, week later got an email with next steps. 1st round was with head of hr, basic hr screen, talked about my background and expectations, why they are hiring, why now, went great. 2nd round was with the hiring manager, head of sales, it was a bit awkward considering this is a product role. I got asked what i built, tech we used, how i manage conflicts etc, pretty standard except it felt like they don’t know what they want, i did ask about the expectations for new hire, i didnt get a clear answer, although i understood that they wanted product marketing manager and not a traditional product manager, emphasis on being able to market their existing products to enterprise clients, they weren’t looking for a 0-1 builder. The CTO is the owner of roadmap, yet HM was head of sales, so bit of awkward dynamics. 3rd round was suppose to be onsite visit to their office to meet the team, i got rejected by email saying i wasnt a fit for this role.
Overall easy interview, friendly and low pressure. Its a bit nuanced, they have a great product, all the credentials to succeed, and working on a deep tech, very cutting edge, with lots of problems to solve, yet somehow they lack direction on growth and expansion. There was a bit of a talk about trust, like big emphasis on trust during 2nd round, and ironically enough, i was told they were moving fast on this role during 1st round, yet somehow i got the feeling they decided not to rush with hiring a new PM. They did hire a new SWE from what i saw, i figure they had the budget for 1 new hire, so they went with SWE instead of PM. Misleading a bit, and they deffo need PMM and not a PM.
