short, 2 interviews with HR representatives. not much technical questions, more of qs were about previews experiences and general knowledge of the industry. overal it was good but a bit tedious to have such long interviews
Completed a writing test for a project I thought I’d be a shoo-in for, given my previous work experience. I was given really low scores in the feedback breakdown, particularly for grammar & syntax, and was told that ‘my test didn’t meet the required standards for the project. To say I was shocked and disturbed is an understatement. I’ve been a professional writer for years now and have always been told that my writing skills are very strong. But I got a ‘C’ for grammar and syntax which made absolutely no sense given that I proofread my pieces over and over again and run them through proofreading software to ensure they are error-free. I don’t know what standard they are looking for here but it seems to be an impossible one. Considering the pay for the project wasn’t very high either, I would have had to work doubly hard to meet those standards for absolute peanuts. If you’re a freelancer worth your salt then steer clear from this place. It definitely smells like a content mill.

They asked me to complete a writing test that should have taken 30 mins and it ended up taking me hours.

Two copy tests and three interviews. After completing both fairly lengthy tests and the first interview, I was then invited to a "first round" interview which lasted 90 minutes. It was an absolute grilling and did not leave me feeling positive about the company culture, which strikes me as highly overworked and underpaid.
Thank you for taking the time to leave this feedback. We’re sorry to hear your experience wasn’t very pleasant as we really appreciate the time our applicants put in on editorial tests and interviews.
We ask applicants to complete editorial tests and a phone screening as our standards for editing are very high and we try to avoid inviting people to a full interview who might not be a good fit. Our aim is to avoid wasting anybody’s time if they might not be right for the role.
Our formal interview is very thorough as we want to make sure anyone we hire will be happy at Quill and enjoy the role, and we want to avoid asking you to do too many separate interviews.
We really appreciate your review as we’re always looking for ways to improve, and we’ll take your feedback into account for our interviews in future. If you have any questions or would like to discuss this further, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us directly.
