Sloppy, waste of time and learned absolutely nothing.
I would like to mention first, HR did a great job. They were nice people.
First call was supposed to be with HR and a software engineer. The software engineer was a no show. Redtail wanted to do another first round call with a software engineer.
I almost feel like they grabbed some random person and wanted the SWE to practice their interview skills.
The meeting started 5-10 mins late. I had to call back to wonder what was going on.
Next, was the getting to know you...fine.
During this time, I was not being asked anything related to software engineering. Algs? Data Structures? My repo on GitHub? Code? Projects? I even have software that looks similar to the software they sell to clients. Nope. Nothing on that.
For a few minutes, we were talking about testing. It should last a minute. I've done it all throughout my career and you want to ask about testing? Exciting(not really).
I then asked questions about the company and the position. I did my research of course. It was like pulling teeth now. I didn't get much of anything. Maybe something like one word answers. During the interview. you want to know more about the company and position. Maybe even some mission statement. Something!!!. Got nothing. I was wondering if I knew more about their products then the SWE. OK, if you are not prepared or at least take it a little seriously...do everyone the favor and cancel the interview/s.
I get more stimulation staring at a wall and thinking.
I'm not here to practice interviews. Now you may think, "Should I test the water?" Go for it.
This is an experience I wish on no one.
If you are reading this, beware. Unless you truly want to waste your time in the morass oblivion.
