The interview process is lengthy and I feel it wastes a lot of time for the applicant. You have a phone screen with a recruiter, an interview with the hiring manager, then Rivian arranges four 45 minute sessions with multiple employees. This becomes exhausting because during the four 45 minute sessions, you're constantly going over your resume with each person and constantly repeating yourself. It is a shame they cant get everyone together, or most people together at once. I have interviewed twice at Rivian now and I got the sense both times that some of the interviewers were very burnt out. I applied a second time to see how things progressed, since my interviews were about one year apart and only a handful of people in the large department I interviewed in were still with the company- one of my interviewers actually told me this. That is a red flag that turnover is that high... During the first interview, they bragged about free lunches and no health insurance premiums. One year later, they do not seem to offer these benefits anymore. Healthcare at Rivian doesn't seem great after viewing the plan details, but it's OK. They like to recruit saying they have unlimited vacation time, but this is a recruiting scheme. During the interview, one interviewer mentioned they would supply dinner if I was there until dinnertime... and this is not a joke, I have actually heard from people that work there and they have to stay until 9 and 10 PM some days (they start work at 7/8 AM). Don't work here if you have kids! Unlimited vacation is good, but only if you can use it. From what I understand you will not have time to take any vacation...or you will be answering e-mails on your vacation, so its not really a vacation! Unlimited vacation benefits the employer and not the employee because upon termination they do not have to pay anything out to you. It saves them money in the long run. I can read people fairly easily and I do not believe the sense of culture that Rivian boasts about. It's a new start-up filled with young people who do not possess the necessary skills and abilities to keep the company successful. If culture was so great, they would not have issued 40+ terminations during the pandemic for 'performance issues'-as many of the reviews state. Because of these reasons, I do not plan on applying at Rivian again. The interview went well and they were nice, but the company is very concerning and the culture seems falsified.
