Demanding Interview Process With Extensive Unpaid Case Work
I went through a multi-round interview process that required an extensive unpaid case study involving high-level strategic and creative thinking. The scope and depth of the work requested went far beyond what is reasonable for an interview and closely resembled real, usable brand and campaign strategy.
Despite strong conversations and positive acknowledgment of the work, the process ended without an offer, with vague reasoning that did not align with the level of effort required. After investing significant unpaid time, there was little transparency or meaningful feedback provided.
For senior candidates, this approach feels inappropriate and exploitative. Experience and leadership capability should be evaluated through past, real-world work—not through speculative assignments that demand substantial labor with no compensation or clear intent to hire.
While individual interactions were professional, the overall interview structure reflects poorly on how candidate time, expertise, and intellectual contribution are valued. I would strongly advise future candidates to clarify scope, expectations, and usage of any requested work before proceeding.
