Extremely unprofessional!!
Firstly, I want to express my enthusiasm for the mission and values of Rocketship Public Schools, which align closely with my own professional goals and experiences. However, I encountered several issues during the initial stages of the recruitment process.
The process from applying to receiving a call back for a phone screening took approximately three weeks. While this timeline is understandable, the experience on the day of the phone screening was less than satisfactory:
Missed Scheduled Time: On the day of the phone screening, I had to send an email ten minutes after the scheduled time to prompt a call from the recruiter. She apologized for being late, citing another call as the reason, but did not initiate the call herself until prompted (Red Flag #1).
Rushed Conversation: Upon finally connecting, the recruiter stated that the call would only be ten minutes due to her being behind schedule with other calls (Red Flag #2). This limited time frame was insufficient for a meaningful conversation about a senior leadership role.
Unprofessional Setting: It was apparent that the recruiter was driving during our conversation. I could hear traffic in the background, and the recruiter mentioned taking notes, which seemed implausible under the circumstances. Furthermore, she did not address me by name, which did not instill confidence that she was prepared for our discussion.
Despite the recruiter’s assurance that I would receive a follow-up email regarding the next steps, I have not received any further communication despite my subsequent follow-up emails.
Given the importance of the Director of Payroll position, I believe that the recruitment process should reflect the professionalism and organizational values of Rocketship Public Schools. It would be more appropriate for a senior HR executive or the CHRO to conduct initial screenings for such a critical role.
I hope this feedback is helpful and contributes to improving the recruitment process for future candidates.
