      Candidatura

Fiz uma entrevista na empresa Rocky Mountain Public Media.

      Entrevista

The first interview was pleasant. The hiring Manager conducted a Zoom meeting and we spoke for approximately 1 hour. It was a conversational interview during which I detailed my experience and the hiring Manager provided details about the position etc. At the conclusion of the interview I was told a second interview would be scheduled. In addition, the hiring Manager asked me to make him aware of any other job offers I was considering in the interim. The second interview was an insulting experience. This interview was a Zoom meeting with the hiring Manager and two of his direct reports. The first part of the interview was similar to the first interview. I detailed my experience and the employees of the hiring manager explained their roles and how the position I was interviewing for fit within the organization. In the first interview, as well as the second, the importance of diversity at Rocky Mountain PBS was explained. I completely agree with their rationale and reasoning for prioritizing diversity and commend them for it. However, as an older candidate in a protected class due to my age, I found some of the questions in the interview insulting. I was interviewing for a highly technical role. I have more than twenty five years’ experience in the industry and have held numerous roles requiring technical acumen and leadership. During the second interview I was asked how much I knew about "computers." Not knowing what the gentleman was referring to specifically, I asked for clarification since computers are ubiquitous in this industry. He asked again how much I knew about computers and if I'd ever had to call Desktop Support at home for help. Again, not knowing what he was referring to or what my home computer had to do with the job, I simply answered; “I’ve never had to use Desktop Support at home.” Shortly thereafter the interview was concluded. I followed up two weeks later and was told they were pursuing other candidates. Looking back on the interview, I do feel the questioning about my knowledge of computers and my need for Desktop Support at home was insulting at best and ageist at worst. If Rocky Mountain PBS is truly committed to diversity in the workplace they should ensure their interview process is reflective of that commitment. Making veiled accusations about a job candidate’s technical knowledge through vague and ambiguous questioning regarding their home computer and needs for support is insulting.
