I'll add in a few facts about myself and let you decide how to interpret the following events. I am a white female engineer with 5 years of specialized experience in RF, domestic manufacturing, and troubleshooting complex integrated systems.
HR offered me $80k to be a Level 2 Engineer in the Columbia, MD area. This offer is below market value for other similar openings in Maryland in 2022. It is $20k lower than my previous salary in the same field. And, after adjusting for inflation (17.95%) , it is lower than my entry level salary fresh out of college in 2017.
I laid out these statistics, did my market research, and asked for a compromise counter offer of $95k.
HR withdrew their job offer and refused to counter-offer.
