This is the first data role they're hiring for in the company. The initial chat was more of a quiz on "what databases should we use" without much opportunity to ask questions.
The technical take-home was a poorly defined real problem for them: inconsistent nested json data with a desire for processing / db and modelling to answer business questions (some question examples given). In my experience creating a decent model alone can take a couple hours, without including coding time for processing, validation, db handling, schemas & sql (the ask is for this to be done in 3 hours).
The technical 1.5h follow up consisted of quizzing on both technical and business/model decisions made, a leet code test and an architectural diagramming session. The latter asked the candidate to create some architectural solutions for creating the data infrastructure, database and dashboarding. It seemed like they expected candidates to come prepared with answers without being asked (like a consultancy with a recommendation pack after a 2-3 week engagement).
