This was honestly a very disappointing and somewhat disrespectful interview I’ve had here. They decided to do a working interview after a phone interview, I was well prepared to get involved, working, and really show them what I was capable of and my abilities with animals. Instead they stuck me for 2 hours as a “dishwasher” essentially. I didn’t mind this being apart of the interview but the entirety of the interview seemed ridiculous as it gave me no opportunity to actually show them what I was capable of for the interview. I couldn’t even clean up some cages or some fecal matter, or even sweep or mop, they just put me on dishes for 2 hours, treated me as FREE labor (which is technically illegal since I did not get compensated for my work), and every 15 minutes people would just constantly pile more and more in. I figured I’d do it for a little while and then they would move me to another area or form or work but instead I felt like I was treated like a free form of labor just to do their dirty work no one wanted to do while 4 other Veterinary Assistants stood around gossiping and laughing. And the worst part is they showed clear contention between one another on the first day as coworkers. I was doing my dishes the way one assistant showed me and left me to it and another girl 30 minutes later came up rolling her eyes at me saying “You’re doing it wrong”. I apologized and told her this was the way “X” told me to do it and asked how to do it properly. She then looked at me and sighed in a very snarky tone, rolling her eyes saying “Ohhh... “X” showed you how to do this? -sigh- She’s.... very... particulate” and basically ended up telling me to completely disregard anything “X” tells me to do since its just “not the right way”. I ended up finding this extremely off putting and very unprofessional especially to the person on their working interview. I honestly should have walked out of this interview, it was extremely unprofessional, the coworkers showed clear contention and issues with each other displaying a negative work environment, and I was treated as free grunt labor for the entire time I was there without allowing me to show any of my skills for the position.
