      Candidatura

Candidatei-me online. Fiz uma entrevista na empresa SKLZ (Carlsbad, CA).

      Entrevista

The SKLZ interview process was fairly standard. The majority - if not all - of the questions were your basic questions. I proactively dug deep with explaining design process, building design attributes, establishing metaphorical design and usability testing (i.e., learn who your market is before you introduce random products; understand their needs and pain points so that you deliver something that matches their usability scenario). I feel that this design process explanation went over their heads - mainly due to the fact that the hiring manager was a Marketing person and well-versed in product design. Also present were two staff designers who I may have intimidated with my design process. I don't believe that they wanted to do the extra work - my impression. Within the design process, they had me take a personality test where they asked me to rate yourself based on specific personality attributes. One of the first questions on this test asked your age. Not that I'm an old guy (I am average age for a seasoned designer) but I don't think an employer should be asking someone their age. You could chose not to answer but I feel checking that box wouldn't do any good as well. I am a manager and I would never ask an interviewee their age. That is just something that you just don't do. I ended up accepting a position elsewhere before they called for the last round of interviews.

      Pergunta 1

The majority of the questions were boilerplate. Like I said in the Interview Process section, there weren't any deep questions and this was with a panel of designers and the hiring manager. The questions were based on my design portfolio where they asked questions to the products showcased within in. Basically like, "Did you design that fitness wearable?" I'm thinking to myself, "Uh....yeah. Why else would I have it in my design portfolio." Of course I didn't say that - instead, I walked them through the design, materials, features and manufacturing process. Other than that, other questions briefly dealt with my past experience and how many people I managed. They were nice people - especially the hiring manager; however, I didn't feel that they 'got' the design and usability testing process that I was laying out for them.
