      Entrevista

Two young guys from SLB came to the spring career fair at my prestigious university. I gave one of them my resume and talked to him about the company. I asked him how I could get an interview and he said they were having an infosession that night. (They seemed to be the only company hiring, as most firms do their recruiting in the fall). I got to the infosession early--they provided good food-- and I sat on the front row. The presentation was interesting and I asked some questions throughout. Both recruiters were former field engineers, so they knew a lot more about the business than an HR person would. At the end, they passed around a sign up sheet for interviews and they said they would choose about ten people for interviews. There were roughly forty people at the infosession. They warned us that the working conditions were extreme, and that this was not a job for everyone. One of the recruiters called me that night to invite me back the next day for an interview. The interview was very relaxed--like a friendly conversation. He told me about his ups and downs in the company and I told him about my interests and skills. My GPA is ~3.4, chemical engineering, but I think he liked my hands-on/mechanical skills. I think he was also getting a feeling for my personality and whether it is a good match for the company. A couple weeks later I got an email inviting me for a second interview with an assignment to give a presentation about one of SLB's field segments. The company paid to fly me out with about 20 other students from highly ranked universities around the country. Three students total were invited from my school. We arrived on a Sunday night and partnered up to give our 5-minute presentations. Each student partnership gave a presentation and then the recruiter covered the same topic in more detail. We took a break for dinner and then continued on, learning about the lifecycle of an oil well, and the services that SLB offers at each phase. We were also told generally what segments had job openings and in what locations. It was important to pay attention because later I had to choose one of these segments for my career. We did a team-building activity, presentations on the training schedule, and then we went to bed after midnight. The information was very interesting, and I got a very good impression of the company. We watched a few videos and looked at pictures from our recruiter's travels around the world. The next day we went out to an oil field. We didn't get to see much of SLB in action, but we got an idea of the remote working environment. We went to the SLB office/warehouse to look at all the equipment. I was very impressed by the technology. We spoke to people around the yard, and they explained the equipment to us -- trucks, perforating guns, tools, etc. They put us in a room with a bunch of engineers and technicians and the recruiters left the room so we could ask honest questions. The engineers told us that they work hard and long, and they make a lot of money. They use state of the art technology and have a lot of responsibility. We were taken to a great lunch, then we did some more field tours. In the evening, we had to give a brief presentation about ourselves and what segment we were most interested in (WesternGeco, D&M, Wireline, Well Services, Artificial Lift, Well Testing, Completion). We were given time to fill out application materials and some surveys about the interview. We wrote down our segment and location preferences in order of priority. Then we met one on one with the recruiter for a five minute exit interview. I was asked if I was interested in working for the company and I told him I was very interested. By this time, his opinion of the recruits is fairly solidified, so there's not much more to it than that. I was told that I would get a call in about a week, but it ended up being more than a week.

It was an on campus hiring. First they shortlisted based on CV. Then second round was group discussion where we were given abstract topics like "Half filled glass of water" and were asked to discuss. This was also an eliminatory round. The final round was more of a HR round, they asked behavioural questions, few puzzles (very easy) and general knowledge questions
