I was first contacted by a recruiter who asked me questions on my background, motivation, and compared my resume to the open positions. The recruiter also asked what my preferences were, amongst the five open positions. At this point I did not know the employer yet.
After selecting one out of the five, I communicated some more with the recruiter, before I got to know the company, and I was contacted by a representative from the local HR, with more questions on formal education and motivation. I was also provided information on salary and benefits.
I was then contacted by HR together with the person who is now my manager; we arranged for an interview using Skype, and I got technical questions mostly related to my position, but also to peripheral tasks. An application engineer (now my colleague) also partook in the interview.
After the interview, I was invited for an interview in person at their site. Here we had some brief chats again on motivation and background, and I got multiple practical tasks (circuit design, schematic analysis, soldering a circuit, measuring it, presenting the results). The interview took a full work day, and we also had a lot of conversations and got to know eachother beyond just the technical and work-related; more personal than many other interviews I have been to.
Approximately one week later I received a job offer. From start to end, the process took 3 months.
