After applying online via my university's job board, I received an email from HR (about a week later) with an employment application/background check attached. The employment application didn't take long it, it just asked for basic employment and education history as well as your most recent address(es). Upon submittal of the form, I was contacted to set up an on-site interview at their HQ in the Columbia, MD office.
The on-site interview was somewhat awkward. There were 2 HR ladies who discussed with me the company's benefits and 2 engineers who told me more about the company and the specifics of the position. One engineer was fairly friendly, the other one seemed to be either lacking in communication skills or he just did not feel like being there that day. Overall it was an ok interview, but it seemed a little more like an interrogation than an interview.
They questioned me about the transportation and analytical programs that I knew and how well I knew them. After saying "I have never used that program" to about 80% of the questions, I pretty much knew that I would not get an offer lol. When the interview was over, they handed me a sheet of paper with 4 questions on it and ask me to do a writing sample on the spot. I did not know very much about any of the topics but supposedly, it was created just to get a glimpse of your writing style (because they write a lot of reports).
I was told that I would be contacted with a decision within 2 weeks, but I was never contacted. It was not until I sent a follow-up email (3 weeks later) to question the status of the position that I found out that I was not chosen for the position.
Oh...and they do not reimburse for travel.
