I was recommended for a position at Samsung R&D Lab by a friend who knows someone in the company. Upon receiving my resume, the employ contacted me and kindly agreed to submit my resume to HR/Hiring managers. A few days later I was contacted by one of their recruiters for a phone screen. It went well and so I was asked to come in for in-person interviews at the R&D lab in San Jose. The recruiter was professional and provided adequate information to prepare for the interview. I was told that I would have to present my designs, experiences, design methodology, and vision to a panel of nine employees (including a VP, GM, Director, and individual contributors). After the presentation I was scheduled for 1:1s with each of the panel members. I spent 5 days preparing a slick interactive portfolio for them and researching each of the interviewers. I went prepared to the interview. When I arrived I was disappointed to learn that the hiring manager decided to work for home that day and chose to ignore my interview. To make matters worse two other 1:1 interviewers did not show up. I was shocked by this unprofessional behavior. In my last job we (hiring managers) had to "move mountains" to make sure that candidates had the best interview experience possible. Candidates and interviews took precedence over all other meetings / events in the company and if one couldn't make it a substitute was found. The company's lack of respect for the candidate and the interview process was shocking. No apologies were offered for the three missing interviewers. At the end of the shortened interview I was assured by HR that Samsung will be contacting me at the end of the week to provide feedback on the interview. That night I wrote "thank you" emails to the members of the interview panel as a professional courtesy. More than two weeks have passed. Samsung did not have the professional courtesy to provide feedback as promised and not one of the interviewers responded to my thank you notes.
