I applied via sending an email to a researcher looking for summer intern. I attached my resume with selected publications, and briefly explained what research projects I have done in the past. 2 weeks later, I received a phone interview offer. I had two separate phone interviews from the researchers and the group head. After the phone interviews, I got the final offer few days later.

Had an introductory interview for 45 minute with hiring manager. Went over my background, skillsets, and interests in detail. Thrown in the mix was a case study question, product sense style.
