I received an email from SRC's recruiting department and we went back and forth for a day on email. Ultimately, I explained to them thank you but that I'm probably not the best candidate. They had too many technologies listed under the req: Oracle, Solaris, HP-UX, RH Linux and AIX and it was listed as a Windows Systems engineering position.
They came back and explained "the posting is a wish list of sorts but the hiring manager's liked your resume and would like to have a phone interview." I explained to them that I would be willing to have a phone conversation but that I still had my reservations due to the fact that they had far too many technologies stacked for one position.
One the day of the interview, I get a phone call from one of the hiring managers about how my resume, in his view, is more aimed towards a systems administrator position, not an engineering position. He then proceeds to cancel the interview.
At that point I was annoyed as I wasn't looking for a job to begin with. I was willing to have the conversation for the benefit of their doubt and I just felt they wasted my time. Why schedule the interview to begin with?
The hiring manager, Mr. Slocum, just didn't seem to have his act together and didn't seem qualified to be interviewing technical candidates. He clearly had already made up his mind before even getting me on the phone, which is fine, but don't schedule the interview.
On top of that, the position really seemed out of touch & unrealistic as they wanted literally everything an IT department offered.
