I was approached by a recruiter to apply for the role of which I responded. 3 Stages 1. HR Interview - Typical HR interview asking about motivations, expected salary etc. 2. Hiring Manger - Usual fit questions and asking about my own experiences and skills. Discussed about stakeholder management skills, how I would run projects etc. There was also a short case study relevant to the particular business area. 3. Director for the team - Did not make it to this round. Understand that there would likely be a case study for this round as well. Overall the interview process was not the most difficult and you do learn a bit more about the business which was an interesting experience if you do not come from an ecommerce background. I asked for and received feedback that I performed well for both fit and case study. Unfortunately, the hiring team was looking for someone with slightly different skillsets which was not specified in the JD. Was very surprised at the outcome especially since I was asked on my preference as to which specific product line I would like to work on. Was offered to apply for a different role within Shopee but the recruiter did not get back after the second HR interview. The overall experience did not feel good as it felt like the organisation did not know what they are looking for in their candidates and that there is a disconnect between the business teams and the HR team. Especially given that they reached out to me to apply.

Overall the interview process was average until the final round of the interview. HR screening was standard, case study was GMAT statistical exam (lots of free exams to study online), user interview 1 was more behavioral, users interview 2 was more technical. Process was fine until the last round. You would think an e-commerce GIANT who sells products digitally and base most of their innovative 'products' to be digital based would ask questions related to tech right? Well wrong!! The technical interview asked me "What are the requirements to make an elevator and why?" What is the correlation between being a product manager for a digital tech company and elevators which is most likely a completely different role; real estate product manager. This is just like asking a financial product manager about the requirements of a digital product...
