Entrevista para Software Developer In Test

      10 de abr. de 2012
      Candidato(a) sigiloso(a) à entrevista
      Seattle, WA
      Nenhuma oferta
      Experiência positiva
Entrevista com nível médio de dificuldade

      Candidatura

Candidatei-me por meio de recrutador(a). O processo levou 2 dias. Fui entrevistado pela Skytap (Seattle, WA) em abr. de 2012

      Entrevista

There was an initial, typical phone screen with their QA Manager, the details of which I don't recall. This was setup through my recruiter. It went well and they were able to expedite the interview process by setting up an interview, convenient for my scheduling, 2 days later. There was a 5-slot interview: System Architect/Developer, SDET, Network Engineer, group lunch, VP of Engineering. Notably, none of the interviewers asked technical "trivia questions" to determine experience. Most of them were thought-provoking or were designed to encourage discussion. The first interviewer was amazing. Most of the questions were very targeted to Quality experience about scaling teams, why some teams fail, why some succeed, and generally around my experience. The second (Test Engineer) interview was relatively easy. All questions were well-formed, and about my Test Experience. There was a 10-line coding question designed to demonstrate intermediate Python knowledge and how well I could communicate my thought process to someone else. The third (Network Engineer) interview was a bit of a departure from typical Quality questions. It was a walkthrough of a Layer 7 networking call and everything that happens from L2-L4. It was not expected this was within my knowledge, but mostly to see if it could be explained to me and I could grasp. The group lunch followed and was mainly for fit. Unfortunately, not a single person engaged me during lunch and they all had their own private conversations or a group conversation. This felt a little awkward, but I chimed in whenever appropriate. The final interview (VP of Engineering) was a bit of a flub on my part and the interviewers. There were several questions that seemed to have more of a Feature Developer slant to them, and they were about experience that was not recent. * "Name something you've worked on where you would have technically produced it differently if you could go back" * "Name something you worked on that you were proud of". A question about testing a C API function followed. I fumbled this partially because of a brain fart, partially because the function was a C function (and I was very rusty and never claimed recent experience). No more questions were given after this to better probe experience and the interview ended abruptly.
