I had no idea this company existed until an external recruiter contacted me via Linkedin and said my experience would be a great fit for their Ecommerce lead role, running the US websites with a team of 4 marketing strategists rolling up to this position. I was very excited. I did a lot of research in the quick turnaround for the in person interview (she contacted me Friday, I went in on Tuesday).
The interview went well, I thought. I met the SVP of Digital in the UK, we talked for an hour about ecommerce, conversion, digital marketing, UX changes, etc. I left thinking I had done well. I sent a thank you note and got a pretty fast and lengthy response back. A week later the recruiter contacted me and told me they were “going in another direction” because they wanted someone with heavy travel industry experience. This was frustrating to me as all of the conversations beforehand were about ecommerce skills and tactics, and marketing, not vertical-specific. If that was their #1 requirement I wouldn’t have bothered to waste my time interviewing as I don’t have experience in the travel industry. So the j televise itself felt great, it’s just frustrating that apparently either I wasn’t told what they really wanted, or they pivoted week of.

Interview with the hiring manager directly, small and flexible company. Friendly and laid back atmosphere. Seems like a positive group overall. 2 interviews before final decision. Hired and started shortly thereafter.
