I had a phone interview. Snapchat reached out to me, and I'm always open to hearing about new opportunities, but made sure to tell them I am very passive and happy where I am currently working. Because I am passive, I don't have an updated resume, as I am not looking for a new job. First thing the Recruiter did was ask for an updated resume so he could have something to go off of. How about taking a look at my LinkedIn page, since that's where you found me? On the call, he immediately started questioning me about my resume, why I'm interested in Snapchat, what I think about team work, etc. No talk about the company, where it's headed, why they are looking, and nothing about the actual role he reached out to me for. Again, this person reached out to me, to talk about an opportunity, why are you asking me why I want to work there? Why did you reach out to me in the first place? I was fully expecting the call to be informational in nature. This recruiter needs to learn how to read potential candidates and know when to sell the position, which he made no effort in doing. When I finally got to asking questions, I found out what the exact role was. At no point did he ask if the opportunity sounded interesting to me (it wasn't), instead he outlined next steps and that they would be in touch if the hiring manager was interested in my resume. Left a bad taste, and served as a good reminder of how NOT to conduct a phone interview with a passive candidate.
