I was reached out to for a pitch call to discuss if there was mutual interest in the position/company. The call was supposed to be a short 15-30 min affair, but it turned into a full on phone screen and coderpad interview (>1 hr long). Not at all what I expected and certainly not something I was prepared for (I wasn't in a room separate from my cats and they even started trying to get on my keyboard).
I did poorly as expected considering the circumstances, but the process itself would have been fair if it were split up into two separate steps. Overview of what happened:
- Background of Splash
- Questions from me
- My background and experience
- Standard fare of technical phone screen questions
- codepad link emailed to me on the spot and proceeded to do a JavaScript challenge (easy + harder problem)
I was able to complete the easy part quickly but then stumbled on the harder question when I didn't see the easy solution. Once the interviewer gave me a hint, I finished it right away. Stumbling around and not being familiar at all with coderpad probably made me seem inexperienced.
I never heard back from them.
