Candidatei-me online. O processo levou 6 meses. Fui entrevistado pela Spotify (New York, NY) em ago. de 2017
Entrevista
Surprisingly unorganized, but friendly. Applied for two positions online in late 2016. Got a positive response to move forward with one in late 2017 and a rejection for the other only 4 days before the onsite for the first!
The process consisted of two phone interviews and a somewhat organized final interview. I do give them credit for not requesting half-baked online interview tests.
The phone interviews took several weeks to organize, apparently due to managers leaving the team and internal miscommunication with HR. The discussions over the phone were uninspiring but friendly. The description of the role was like a salad without dressing. It was hard to tell if the expectations were more for a business analyst double-checking statistics or a more potentially inventive machine learning role. I had recently spoken with StitchFix and Bloomberg where the descriptions and discussions left me with the impression that they enjoyed deeper inquiry and hence with the outlook of "it would be fantastic to work there!". Not so with Spotify, which was heartbreaking since the product is world-class. My hope is that it was the specific team this time, not reflective of the overall culture.
The content of the final interview onsite in the Flatiron district was better, in spite of their team being 15 minutes late to start... The software engineering side of the team was Excellent. Here is where I felt there was real expertise and that they were well past cookie-cutter questions. However, the data science side deflated my interest. After a few questions on logistic regression and standard data analysis, I lost interest.
After the interview, I wrote an email thanking everyone. After 2 months I didn't receive a reply nor per diem reimbursement.
Side notes: I had the impression that only very senior software engineers and researchers in machine learning are given the space and time to be creative in regards to data science. Everything else in between seemed to be relegated to middle management. I had much higher hopes for Spotify. Also, few folks seemed to be excited about the move to the financial district...
Overall it was a fun opportunity to speak with them, but for now, disenchanting.

It had 3 rounds of interviews with the final interview with data science manager. Mostly were technical questions and the final one being mostly high level project questions along with product data science related metrics type scenarios

Product related metrics scenarios, it is consistent with most companies with product data science teams
Fairly standard, recruiter screen, take home assignment with a presentation and analysis then final round with a presentation of your take home to an audience (virtual due to the pandemic). I had a follow up afterwards with the hiring manager as well.
Initial HR Screen followed by call with Hiring Manager. I failed out after the hiring manager call. HR was at least nice enough to get back to me soon after to let me know they were moving forward with other candidates.
