this was one of the most drawn-out and degrading interview processes I've ever gone through. i was contacted by the talent acquisition team, who were consistently professional and courteous. the hiring manager was another story. we connected 2 months prior to discuss one role that i didn't have the "preferred qualifications" for. he instead asked me to wait for an upcoming position, then asked me to apply once it was posted months later. this role was 4 levels below my prior title and less than 60% my prior salary, but I was excited by the mission of St Jude's and applied. he requested i prepare a 20 minute presentation for our screening-stage interview, which i obliged. he was belligerent and condescending throughout our conversation, and spent my presentation belittling my work and questioning my scientific aptitude. we reached the end of our scheduled time, but he pressed on and asked me to answer for aspects of my background that "disadvantaged" me for this role. i was too choked up to answer properly at this point, so I simply said that I had to go and wished him the best in filling this role. I signed out and withdrew my application.
