      Entrevista para Research Statistician

      6 de jul. de 2016
      Candidato(a) sigiloso(a) à entrevista
      Atlanta, GA
      Nenhuma oferta
      Experiência negativa
Entrevista com nível médio de dificuldade

      Candidatura

Candidatei-me por meio de recrutador(a). O processo levou 4 semanas. Fui entrevistado pela State Farm (Atlanta, GA) em mai. de 2016

      Entrevista

Pleasant enough chat with the lady from HR got me really excited about working with them. Unfortunately, it could only go down from there. The phone screen with the technical interviewer was singularly unpleasant - he seemed more concerned about puffing up his own ego, and he was factually wrong on multiple technical points. I was particularly insulted when he implied I had been dishonest with my resume. Whatever - I was willing to give the company the benefit of the doubt if it didn't involve working with this guy. So, they fly me in to Atlanta - I was told the names of two of the interviewers - only to show up that morning to be blindsided with an itinerary involving people I knew nothing about, involving mostly videoconferencing. They seemed to keep going on about logistic regression and handling multicollinearity - there's really only so much that can be said on those topics, so imagine my frustration with that coming up over and over again - and it's rather dubious they care so much about logistic regression but still think the Hosmer-Lemeshow GOF test is valid (hint - it's not). The other portions of the interview seemed to be about feeling me out - it just felt... off, like I had no control in the process. I didn't have enough time to connect with people in the way I usually do with interviews, and because of those time constraints, I didn't have time to recharge after each person either.

      Perguntas de entrevista [1]

      Pergunta 1

The most difficult question involved a series about my personality and goals - the head honcho was sharing a long story about the evolution of the department, and was trying to see if I was in line with that. Particular concerns were: 1) do you prefer constant tasks or changing tasks, 2) what do you really want to do in life - i.e., where are you satisfied, and 3) what sorts of things would you really rather not do?

Invited to interview with them for 30 minutes at JSM. The two guys that interviewed were not friendly at all. One of them laid back in his chair, didn't say much, and just stared at me. The other one talked the most and glared at me after he asked a question. Why would anybody want to work for state farm if they have people like them interviewing candidates? I mean, they asked me to interview with them not the other way around. They should try to get people to want to work for state farm. They later contacted me through email about 10 days later for an onsite interview with my choice of location. I interviewed from 8:30 to 3 or 3:30. It was exhausting and unnecessary. The managers from different teams that I talked to were so old school. They didn't even try to get me excited to work for the company. The majority of them have no clue as to what kind of statistician I am and have no idea what's going on in the statistical community.
