I applied through Careerbuilder.com and received an email from an agent within 48 hours with his personal testimony of how he came to be in the insurance industry and why he believed in State Farm. The email requested that I answer three questions and email them back. I wrote my response as if it were a personal statement and received an email back from the agent to set up an in-person interview within a week. The interview was casual and more conversational. I felt like I was being sold on why I should work for State Farm. I was told the typical State Farm stats and how much of an opportunity it would be for me. I am a college graduate and thought that my education would be a deciding factor. As it turns out, the thing that caught the agent's attention was my extra-curricular involvement. He saw that as a way for me to network and build more customers. They do offer paid training for two months, but the base pay is only$12 per hour. Then you get paid per application/policy. In other words, you will have to work (sales, phone calls, etc.) to make money. I am still in the middle of the process, so I'm not sure if an offer will be made, or if I will accept it.
