      Entrevista

      The first of 3 interviews was an in person interview with the CEO and COO. Interview went very well. It was expressed to me in subsequent conversations and email exchanges that they were extremely excited and all that was left was the formal application and testing. I was also told that I would need to meet with the team members that I would be in charge of and that we would do this over a lunch. I was told that they had recently had an offer accepted for another developer and he would be starting in 2 - 3 weeks, they didn't want to start us at the same time or do too much at once in the way of on boarding and they wanted me to meet him in person (either fly out to California with the CEO or wait until the developer was in office). I was told that I would meet with him over a dinner possibly. Second interview was a week later at their office. I was to take care of some of the usual HR paperwork and then go to an informal lunch with some of the team members as a "get to know you" sort of thing. Shortly before sitting down to eat I received a text message informing me of a potential family emergency. I sent a few messages back and forth to some family members, etc. and then continued on with the informal lunch. The lunch seemed to have went well and I had a short conversation about the next steps with the CEO following the lunch. He said that he knows this process is going slower than he would like but not to worry and to enjoy some time away with my daughter, etc. As is customary with all interviews, I sent a follow up a couple days later thanking them for their time. The CEO replied back to my email saying that he was surprised to hear from me and that he thought I was no longer interested due to the few texts I sent during our informal lunch. I explained to him the situation and apologized if it seemed like I was uninterested. He was understanding and said that everyone has bad days. From this point forward, they were very distant. Prior to this they kept in contact on a regular basis. Final interview was two weeks later. I was a little bit surprised when I was told that I would be meeting with the new developer and a CTO of their parent company for a sit down interview. Previously I was led to believe that the 2nd and 3rd interviews were just meet and greet. When I asked the CEO about this he more or less told me that because of my background and potential great fit for the role, he was letting me have this interview. And again, all correspondence with them via email was extremely short single sentence replies to any questions I had. The interview with the developer and CTO went extremely well. Once I finished that interview I met with the CEO for a minute or two. There was no smile from him, just a hand shake and "You should hear something by the middle of next week". I did not hear a single thing until the following week (middle of the week). I received and email that said that they weren't going to hire for this position right now and were going to search for a perfect fit. So after having the first interview with the CEO and him saying that I was a perfect fit and that we were just going to need to go through some lengthy formalities and more or less saying that it was a sure thing, to having them say I wasn't a fit after all. I was a confused to say the least. I had declined all other interviews with other companies and made this my sole priority based on what I was told by the CEO. My advice to anyone that is applying to a senior position in development or management would be; Hope that nothing comes up during an informal lunch, like a potential family emergency, because that informal lunch will carry more weight than 10+ years of the exact experience they are looking for. In my opinion, they could have not dragged me through the 3+ weeks of wait after the "informal lunch" and they could have just said they were going to move on with other candidates. That would have been the professional and proper move to make.

      Our management team has discussed this review in-depth. When hiring for any position here at SuretyBonds.com, experience and skills alone do not automatically qualify an individual for an employment offer. We put a great deal of stock in how new employees will integrate into our existing team(s), and hiring for a management position does require more extraneous vetting than a typical interview process. As indicated above, no offer was presented to this individual, which, as alluded to in this review, was a decision made after extensive vetting throughout the interview process.
