I interviewed through a recruiter and had a positive phone screening. They asked I come in person that same week to interview and meet with the team. Day of the interview, they have no time and are unprepared so they decide to see how I would do on the job. I helped them test, log bugs, retest fixes, and interacted with several folks on the team. They were all thrilled & the hiring manager said they will get back to me the same day with good news and next steps for onboarding. Recruiter gives me a call same night and tells me they are not hiring at this time, they no longer have the budget. They had no intentions of ever hiring me, they took advantage of a hungry young person ramping up their career for free labor. Avoid at all costs & just walk away if they attempt to do the same with you.
