Take Home Design Challenge where they expect you to spend about 5 hours creating work for them on spec! <<< I called them out on this and suggested either getting compensated for my time or providing me an alternative challenge. The recruiter wrote a terse response saying "I wouldn't ever do anything I wasn't comfortable with" And then I never heard back from her again.

After applying online, I was contacted by a recruiter for an initial phone screen. She set up a more in-depth phone screen (via Zoom) with one of the designers on the team. Next, I had a one-on-one via Zoom with the Director of Design. The next step was a portfolio review with the team and the presentation of my solution to a design problem they had given me the week before. While all of the interviews seemed to go well with them being eager to move to the next stage, things changed unexpectedly after the portfolio review and design problem presentation. The recruiter told me they had decided not to move forward to the next step and promised to provide feedback in the next few days. Despite several attempts on my part, that was the last I heard from anyone at Tanium. My online portfolio had been reviewed by at least one member of the team before this final interview, and they hadn't raised any concerns. Quite the opposite, they seemed impressed by my recent work. And, when presenting my solution to the design problem, there was very little criticism. The way they cut off communication after the last interview was very unprofessional. Five months later, the position still seems to be open, so maybe they're extremely selective. I couldn't help feeling like my age (over 50) was a bigger factor than the quality of my work, however.
