I had a very poor hiring process. I first applied for Assistant Store Manager. My first interview was a brief, unexpected phone call from Tesla HR, one of the Recruiting managers. I was driving when first receiving the call, so pulled off to talk. The Recruiter asked just for me to share about "Why Tesla." I started to explain (about 30-sec. in) what I'm looking for when he stopped me in mid-sentence to interrupt saying to hold on because he had to take another call. I waited patiently for approx. 4 minutes. He returned and said I sounded like a good fit (even though I had not finished) and said to expect another call from HR to set up an in-store interview with Store Manager, Assistant Manager, and Regional Sales Manager all the same day, back-to-back-back. After one week and did not hear a response from Tesla HR, I called and they said I should have been called... as I insisted I had not. I was called back a week later to set up the in-store interview. The day of the interview, I arrived to discover the Store Manager and Regional Sales Manager were not expected to be in that day. I waited as one of the employees went to the office to track down someone who might know. Approximately 20 minutes later, the Store Manager arrived and she apologized she had no information about me other than interviewing for Assistant Manager position. We talked approx. 45 minutes and she informed me they were actually no longer looking to fill the Assistant Store Manager position. She did say there was always a chance she could find me another position as Product Specialist that could lead into Assistant Manager position. I agreed to consider. Approx. 4 weeks later, I received a call from Tesla HR to setup another interview with the Regional Sales Manager over skype. If skype interview went well, to expect one final interview with the VP of Sales, George Blankenship over skype. Both of these other interviews went as planned and finally received a call from Tesla HR saying I was being hired as a Product Specialist, however, would not be hired by Tesla Motors, rather a hiring agency, Volt. Therefore would not be considered a Tesla employee, but hired contractor. This was quite surprising and discouraging as throughout was expecting to be hired by Tesla, with part-time PTO, partial benefits and stock options. This however, was not the case, instead it was a 12-week contract.

It was casual and informal. I found that the managers were not very focused and seemed to lack professionalism. I'd recommend asking them more questions about the position and what it can offer you. There will be alot of sales force
