I went through three rounds of virtual interviews. My first interview was with J Bates, an amazing recruiter who is very knowledgeable of the News industry, the Scripps company, and the stations he is recruiting for. J initially reached out to me, and presented a variety of stations which were hiring. He made sure to tell me about areas that would fit my lifestyle. He was also very upfront about wages. My next interview was with my new station’s news director. This interview was very comfortable and casual. During the interview we mostly talked about my experience. It was a great opportunity to learn about the newsroom culture and also learn more about management. The news director was very transparent about challenges and struggles. However, what he mentioned wasn’t anything negatively extraordinary. The third virtual interview involved newsroom management. This was a great opportunity to learn about the newsroom routine. After the third interview I was flown out to the station’s location and was able to meet a majority of the staff during my three day stay. I never left my home town for almost theee decades, but this visit gave me the confidence that I was making the right decision my moving across the country and working for this Scripps station.

The interview process was amazing to say the least! I really love how Scripps utilizes their recruiting system to streamline the process. As a person who’s applied for hundreds of jobs and interviewed with many companies during my time in news, it was refreshing to have a company that walks you through the entire process. Justin Glaser (my recruiter) was beyond amazing! He checked in with me often, kept me in the loop, and even worked some weekends to make sure everything was going according to plan!
