      Entrevista

What everyone is voicing here is most definitely true. You have to be a robot with all the right answers to be extended an offer. I received an invitation to interview after applying -- I actually applied twice - the first time I got rejected immediately and the second time I got to interview. This doesn’t make sense because if I wasn’t a good fit, I shouldn’t have been offered to interview at all. If you have time to waste and don’t mind overly excessive interviewing practices, this one is definitely for you folks. They obviously have a ton of applicants and my first interview was scheduled weeks after I received the initial email. This was the first availability that the recruiter had. I got moved on to speak to the next person in line. They completely ignored my availability though and had the interview scheduled when I wasn't available but I took it anyways due to how busy they are. During this call, I was told by the recruiter I have to prepare a pitch. What this is, is essentially a mock call without anyone actually speaking to you. It's a bit confusing but it's like you leaving a VM for the prospect. Make sure to pay attention to the links that the recruiter emails you and include the case studies when pitching Toast. When the time came for me to interview, the person who was scheduled to talk to me did not call. Instead, someone else did and they did not even fully introduce themselves, just mentioned their first name once we began speaking and refused to give their last. I was confused so I asked who they were and where my interviewer was and I was told they double booked the appointment and she was speaking to another candidate. The interview questions were timed precisely to the minute, it was very rigid and military like. You have to follow their tight schedule so there isn't any time at all (besides two to three minutes at the end where you are allowed to ask questions) to speak on anything but what they have prepared to ask you. She actually said - you have one minute left. I spent weeks prior to this interview going over their products and services, learning about their competitors and pricing. I actually created a PowerPoint presentation and interviewed local restaurants to better understand the restaurant business and how Toast works. No one got to see this because I did not advance to the next step, nor did I get to show my work during this meeting. I definitely felt like I was not given a full chance to prove myself, my knowledge and my abilities. It felt like a complete waste of time and efforts. Toast truly is horribly selective regarding the individuals (whoever they actually are) that they ultimately choose. You HAVE to answer all of their questions PERFECTLY and it felt like if one answer is not up to par, you are out. The feeling that I got from Toast is that candidates are like cattle on a chopping block. You basically have to know how they operate right out of the box, as if there is no training period and an individual wouldn't be able to learn. I do not think it should be this hard to get hired here, yet they make it practically impossible. I believe Toast definitely loses out on talent and individuals that think differently, "outside their box" and come from non-restaurant backgrounds by having such a narrow mindset. Those candidates may just bring a fresh eye to the team and contribute in new and refreshing ways. It almost felt like there was no actual job and candidates are interviewed just for Toast to stay relevant and check some boxes. By the way, the rejection email that I received included a completely different person's name, whom I also did not speak with. To say that they are disorganized would be an understatement. Where I do give them credit is once I received the rejection email, there was an option to schedule an appointment to go over why I was not selected. I thought that was a pretty nice gesture considering most companies do not do this. Unfortunately, it was the only pleasant experience in this whole process.

The interview process consisted of four rounds: a recruiter screen, a hiring manager interview, a mock sales exercise, and a final interview. Overall, the process was well organized and professional. I invested a significant amount of time preparing because this was a role I genuinely wanted. Unfortunately, I was not selected to move forward to the third round. Based on my experience, I believe my limited direct sales background was the primary factor, although the feedback process was respectful and transparent throughout.

I did an initial phone screen for an AE role. The recruiter showed up a few minutes late but I didn't think much of it. We had a nice conversation and they mentioned they'd like to move me forward. I didn't hear anything for a week or so when they reached out saying they had been swamped and would schedule me shortly. They reached out a 2nd time saying the internal schedule was busy but they'd get something on the calendar soon. Then I received an auto rejection. Not a great experience, it just made the company look extremely unorganized.

First I do appreciate the fact that they got back to me and gave me a “no” instead of ghosting, but the compliments will end there. The first round with the recruiter was fantastic. She said I sounded like a great fit and was excited to pass me to the next round. Fast forward to that next round and I could tell right away the sales manager had zero interest in talking to me. The most monotone voice, didn’t show interest in my prior experience, asked some questions that i didn’t think were relevant. She definitely was just there to check the box. Not long after I got the rejection email. understand it’s part of the game but i followed all the interview prep provided to me and it seemed like no matter what I wasn’t moving past that second round.
